Neutron Skin and Giant Resonances in Nuclei

چکیده

Some aspects, both experimental and theoretical, of extracting the neutron skin ∆R from properties of isovector giant resonances are discussed. Existing proposals are critically reviewed. The method relying on the energy difference between the GTR and IAS is shown to lack sensitivity to ∆R. A simple explanation of the linear relation between the symmetry energy and the neutron skin is also presented.

Nuclear symmetry energy probed by neutron skin thickness of nuclei.

We describe a relation between the symmetry energy coefficients c(sym)(rho) of nuclear matter and a(sym)(A) of finite nuclei that accommodates other correlations of nuclear properties with the low-density behavior of c(sym)(rho). Here, we take advantage of this relation to explore the prospects for constraining c(sym)(rho) of systematic measurements of neutron skin sizes across the mass table, ...

The dipole response of proton-rich nuclei

We propose to search for proton dipole pygmy resonances in nuclei near the proton drip line. Experimental evidence only exists for neutron pygmy resonances, but calculations infer the occurrence of proton pygmy resonances in proton-rich nuclei in the mass region A = 30 – 50. According to recent RQRPA calculations, low-lying E1 transitions, well below the giant dipole resonance, reveal the dynam...

Pairing correlation in nuclear matter from Skyrme force

The properties of pairing correlation in nuclear matter are investigated by using various versions of Skyrme forces. Truncation of states involving pairing correlation, necessary due to zero range nature of the Skyrme force, is discussed in detail. A plateau appears in pairing gap versus cutoff for each force. We propose to choose the cutoff parameter in the middle of the plateau so that the pa...

Pygmy dipole resonance in 130,132Sn isotopes and the neutron skin thickness

The pygmy dipole resonance (PDR) manifests itself as a concentration of dipole strength near the neutron separation threshold below the giant dipole resonance (GDR) domain. It is related to structural changes in nuclei with a large neutron excess giving rise to a neutron skin. According to theoretical calculations, a very precise measurement of the neutron skin thickness in heavy doubly magic n...

Spin-isospin resonances and the neutron skin of nuclei.

The Gamow-Teller resonances (GTR) and isobaric analog states (IAS) of a sequence of even-even Sn target nuclei are calculated by using the framework of the relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov model plus proton-neutron quasiparticle random-phase approximation. The calculation reproduces the experimental data on ground-state properties, as well as the excitation energies of the isovector excitations....
